Hello and welcome! My name is Andrea Boyd, (she/her) LCSW-C
and I am a psychotherapist specializing in working with young adults, roughly ages 18-26. This time of life is a time full of complexity— a time when we make myriad choices about who we want to be, who we want around us, what we want to do, and what we value, all while navigating a culture that puts impossible expectations on us. I use an integrative trauma informed and attachment based approach to helping young people in developing ways to cope with hard times, form healthy bonds with others, and heal from past traumas and negative beliefs about themselves.
Some issues I work with most often include:
Life Transitions: Coping with big changes in life such as starting college, changing living and family situations, etc. Navigating big emotions that often accompany such changes
Depression: Feelings of sadness, unworthiness, hopelessness, fear about the future
General Anxiety: Worrying about things going wrong, feeling nervous, trouble with sleeping or eating
Social Anxiety: Fear about going into social situations, fear about what others are thinking of us, fear about being judged or exposed
Low Self Esteem: Not feeling good about the self, feeling incompetent, not smart, not cool, not attractive, etc
LGBTQ issues: questioning sexual orientation and/or gender identity, coping with other people’s reactions to our identity
Other marginalized identities: Coping with issues of marginalization because of other types of non dominant identities such race, religion, disability, body size, etc
Relationship Issues (family, peers, romantic/sexual): Developing insight into how we relate to others, what works and doesn’t work, and developing strategies for connecting more deeply and/or broadly with the people that matter most or interest us most
Some unique modalities in which I have expertise include:
Expressive/Creative therapies: Engaging in creative activity as a way to tap into our innate knowledge of how we need to heal and grow. I especially use modalities involving drama, visual arts and writing.
Nerdy therapies: I have an interest in therapeutic gaming, especially group therapy using therapeutic dungeons and dragons or other table top role playing games. I also strive to connect with clients with nerdy interests through these interests to best access their preferred road to creativity and growth.
